14 Hours

Posted 6th August 2013

New Angular act Society are readying the release of their highly-anticipated second single '14 Hours', having shot to infamy late last year on the back of the remarkable runaway success of super-limited 7-inch vinyl-only debut 'All That We've Become'.

The man behind the classic croon, 24-year-old London-based singer and songsmith, James Girdler, is stepping into the spot-light, captured in signature cinematic style in the band's first press shots. "This project has been a total labour of love for almost two years now," says the frontman. "After countless nights making drones with amazing bits of old gear we're very excited to let this project step out of the shadows."

The song itself feels the perfect next step for Society, with the familiar groove-driven beats and cut-up back-drop, this time swaggering in triumphant hip hop fashion, set-against bittersweet gospel cries, and Jamie's unmistakable voice guiding us through vivid tales of regret, release and redemption.

Watch this space for imminent updates, as Society's debut live shows are very much on the horizon, as well as a rather special filmic follow-up in the promo video for '14 Hours', and various other surprises.

Vinyl For Syria

Posted 9th July 2013 in Fresh Touch

Angular's very own Fresh Touch are part of a very special release at this weekend's Independent Label Market. The collaborative project, headed up by Rodaidh McDonald and Richard Russell, released The Ethiopian EP last year, and now an unreleased track from those sessions is going to see the light of day as part of the Vinyl For Syria collection in aid of Oxfam's Syria appeal.

The track 'Latest Style' also features some special guests, including Shiromeda Polyphonic Singers, Blur's Damon Albarn, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos. 50 copies will be available from the Angular stall, as well as the Independent Label Market Stall and The Vinyl Factory stall.

As well as the Fresh Touch project, there will a further nine one-off tracks available, including Swamp81 boss Loefah, who breaks his five year silence with the release of single Western (Did A Skank). Elsewhere, there's a vinyl reissue for Beth Orton's Carmella by Four Tet as well as a new Factory Floor re-work of Tim Burgess's The Doors Of Then.

Costing £10 each, the 180 gram 12" vinyl records feature an etching on the b-side and are individually hand numbered, presented in a screenprinted die-cut heavyweight disco sleeve. All copies will be sold on the day and all proceeds will go to support refugees in Syria. For those who cannot make it to the market there is one complete set of all ten releases to being sold on eBay, the auction ends on the 16th July.

We are delighted to present 'Tina Weymouth', the third single to be taken from the critically lauded self-titled debut album by This Many Boyfriends.

Set for release on January 21st 2013 'Tina Weymouth' is not just an ode to the Talking Heads bass player; it is also a cautionary tale. You see, a great song can make you excitedly scrawl your hero's name on your t-shirt, but it can also make you foolishly take a first date to a dusty old record shop. Pop music can bring you ultimate joy and it can eat you up, be warned!

This Many Boyfriends will also be playing the following dates, including a UK tour with Kaiser Chiefs:

26th: LONDON, Barfly, Xfm Alldayer

21st: CHELTENHAM, Racecourse (w/ Kaiser Chiefs)
